"I did not find this work in a classroom.
I found it by needing it to survive."

JANNE WALLACE • FOUNDER

THE BEGINNING

My journey into this work did not begin in a training room or a graduate programme.

It began with a Craigslist ad of a group session using dance and movement to help the nervous system de-shock itself after years of accumulated stress.

I walked in not knowing what to expect. What I found changed the course of my life.

Inside that room, another participant handed me a brochure for a deep embodiment course, a body-based therapeutic practice rooted in the work of Wilhelm Reich. The instructor had a two-year waiting list. And then, unexpectedly, a place opened for me. I stepped into that classroom and stayed for thirteen and a half years.

I learned that the body holds the story. And that the nervous system has to learn to feel safe before the story can change.

I am no longer just striving to survive. I am actively projecting a worthwhile quality of life and I am dedicated to helping others do the same.

THE TRANSFORMATION

For years before that classroom, I had been living with what I now understand as a baseline of constant unwellness, a nervous system perpetually wired for threat. I carried severe, recurring PTSD that had first fractured my childhood and followed me all the way into my 40s.

The embodiment work I trained in taught me how to de-doctorate my inner resistances. How to feel and sense what a healthy body actually needs, rather than living in the continuous absence of wellness. It taught me that we are natural conductors of energy, built to clear away dense, stored pockets of trauma at the cellular level.

And then came the car accident. One I easily could have been killed in. Instead of being broken by it, I was driven, profoundly and completely, back into the work. My nervous system had been running on survival for so long that it had forgotten what calm felt like. Through fourteen years of study, I learned how to bring it home.

WHY ROOT & RETURN

Root & Return exists because I know what it costs to carry trauma alone. I know what it feels like when the nervous system has no map home. And I know, from thirteen and a half years of deep embodiment training and from my own survival of it, that there is a way through.

What I offer is not traditional therapy. It is somatic, body-based group facilitation, a structured, trauma-informed space where the nervous system learns to rest, reset, and re-regulate itself through the presence of others who understand. Because healing does not happen in isolation. It happens in community, in witnessed safety, in the kind of room where no one needs to explain themselves to be understood.

I am a non-medical, psychosomatic rehabilitation specialist and life coach. I have walked this path myself. And I am here to walk it alongside you — guiding the journey from survival into something that finally, genuinely, feels like life.

CREDENTIALS AND APPROACH

Training and background: Thirteen and a half years of advanced embodiment coursework in deep somatic therapeutic work, rooted in the tradition of Wilhelm Reich. Trained in nervous system regulation, trauma release, and the mind-body connection at the cellular level.

Approach: Non-medical. Body-based. Group-facilitated. Root & Return works with the nervous system, not around it. Sessions combine somatic tools, co-regulation, and guided group conversation in a structured container designed to help participants move from a state of survival into genuine thriving.

Important: Root & Return is a facilitation practice, not a therapy or counselling service. Janne Wallace is not a licensed therapist or psychologist. If you are currently experiencing a mental health crisis, please seek support from a qualified mental health professional.
